Videollamada con Lissa

During third period today, my Dual Language Technology classroom skyped with Lissa Layman and her husband who live in Kuwait in Middle East of Arabian Gulf, populated with mostly Arab and Muslim and many expats. Lissa a technology coach and her husband a teacher, both knowledgeable in visual literacy, answered some of our questions about the subject. She explained that "Visual Literacy is the ability to recognize and understand ideas through images" . Her husband gave us an example of how they use visual literacy in their everyday life like grocery shopping. He was telling us how he went grocery shopping and he communicated using visual literacy to be able to explain that he just wanted one bag to be used for the produce he got.

What is Visual Literacy?

Does Visual Literacy actually help students learn, or is it a different type of learning style for students who don’t learn as well without pictures and drawing?

How is Visual Literacy used in the real world and in our everyday lives?
Is it really important for students to learn about Visual Literacy?
What are some tech tools or resources that would help us better understand Visual Literacy?
What level of learning do you think this could be used to be the most effective? Ex)
